Protein Coffee

Are you a coffee person? Get ready to level up with this "jacked java" recipe!

Ingredients

  • 8 - 12 ounces of your favorite coffee
  • 1 Tbsp of MCT oil
  • 1 scoop of protein powder (usually between 10 - 20 grams depending on your goals)
  • 1 tsp of Maca powder

"Swap Outs":  Try using collagen powder in place of the protein powder. Vital Proteins makes an awesome one that blends and froths like nobody's business. If you're looking for some flavoring, Mark Sisson has a fantastic vanilla coconut and chocolate coconut collagen powder that are to die for. Swap out a scoop of one of those instead. Your skin, hair and nails will thank you.

Quick tip: For some people, MCT oil and Maca can be rough on an empty stomach. If you're new to these products, I'd suggest trying a teaspoon of MCT or a 1/2 teaspoon of Maca to start with and see how you feel. Try one each day to determine the effect. You can always build up.

Where's the cream?  I know some people love creamer in their coffee, but dairy can be highly inflammatory. The protein powder and MCT oil will bring a creaminess to your coffee that will make you forget your creamer, I swear. Course, you can always add a dollop of coconut whipped cream (which is made from full fat coconut milk). The options are endless.

How to prepare

  1.  Brew your favorite coffee
  2.  When ready, pour into a blender
  3. Add the protein/collagen powder, MCT oil and Maca. Amounts of MCT and Maca will vary based on taste. See my 'quick tip' above if you've never tried either of these before
  4. Blend for 30 seconds until frothy
  5. Pour into your favorite cup and savor
  6. Congratulate yourself for giving your body a healthful boost and enjoy the extra time and money you saved -- not to mention the mid-morning sugar crash you avoided -- by not stopping at Starbucks :)
